Whats This Photo Book Project About? 

This photo book project will offer an intimate look at ritualized celebrations through my perspective as a portrait painter and storyteller. It will feature both photographs of these vibrant events and accompanying essays that explore their deep significance The book also examines how documenting and sharing these celebrations ensures their lasting impact, actively preserving crucial legacies for generations to come. 

A Modern Ceremony of Remembrance and Legacy.

The photobook project is a dynamic, collaborative journey dedicated to sharing and preserving legacies. Picture a gathering with loved ones, celebrating your life. A past participant, Reva an educator whose community shared her story, was inspired to create a plan to digitally preserve photos saved from house fires – a profound act of legacy safeguarding. These filmed, emotionally rich reveals transform personal histories into shared, public testimonies.

However, participation in the photobook project extends far beyond these intimate reveals. You might also encounter me live painting portraits at community events, capturing the spirit of individuals in real-time. Or discover a pop-up where I show a completed portrait, offering a chance for short, powerful conversations and a metaphorical 'handing of flowers'—a moment to pause, honor, and connect deeply with the legacy embedded within the artwork. Ultimately, whether through a full reveal, a dynamic live painting, or an intimate pop-up, the core mission remains: to ensure your story becomes a vibrant, lasting part in a beautiful art book preserved into the future.
